Telstra’s future ways of working: Redefining flexibility

Shared spaces for seamless collaboration

When Australia’s largest telecommunications provider, Telstra, introduced its Future Ways of Working (FWoW) initiative, Uplifting Solutions’ monitor arms became a cornerstone in turning their vision into reality.

The goal

Telstra’s mission is straightforward: empower people to stay connected anytime, anywhere. In a fast-paced global environment, their aim is to break down barriers like distance, devices, and time zones by fostering secure, seamless communication. The ultimate vision? Enabling employees to work from any device, access corporate tools effortlessly, and collaborate in ways that boost both productivity and flexibility. This forward-thinking approach reflects the expectations of today’s workforce, where balancing personal and professional lives is crucial. Telstra’s initiative goes beyond technology—it’s about creating a workplace that works for its people, enabling high performance while accommodating diverse needs. To bring this to life, Telstra needed innovative solutions that prioritise mobility, adaptability, and collaboration. And this is where Uplifting came in.

Location: 400 George Street

Client: Telstra

Why Uplifting?

Telstra’s FWoW design challenges the traditional office setup by replacing static individual desks with flexible shared spaces. This reimagined layout promotes teamwork, creativity, and freedom of movement. Employees now have access to diverse work settings that suit their tasks and projects, offering a level of flexibility tailored to their needs. Central to this design are ergonomic tools, such as Uplifting’s monitor arms. These tools ensure that whether employees are working on a laptop, a desktop monitor, or swapping between devices, they can adjust their setups for optimal comfort and productivity.

Making it work

The pilot project at Sydney’s 400 George Street showcased the power of design and technology working in harmony. Multiple floors of a commercial building were transformed into open, modern spaces, each featuring designated zones for specific activities. Uplifting’s 7Flex monitor arms were installed on every desk, paired with laptop trays for added versatility. These ergonomic solutions allowed employees to:

  • Securely mount various devices.
  • Adjust their setups effortlessly.
  • Work comfortably from any spot on the floor.

The result? Employees could configure their workspaces on the fly to suit their needs, enhancing collaboration and maximising output. By using a single model of monitor arm across nine different desk layouts, Telstra achieved ergonomic consistency while simplifying the overall setup.

A new standard

The Sydney fit-out was just the beginning. With its success, Telstra rolled out the FWoW initiative across major cities, including Melbourne, Brisbane, and Parramatta. Today, thousands of employees benefit from adaptable workspaces that combine comfort, collaboration, and cutting-edge design.

Telstra’s reimagined workplace is more than just a case study in effective office design—it’s a blueprint for the future of work. By putting their people and technology at the heart of their strategy, Telstra has set a new benchmark for what modern workspaces can achieve.

This is a story of vision, innovation, and partnership, with Uplifting Solutions playing a pivotal role in turning an ambitious idea into a reality. Telstra’s FWoW initiative demonstrates how the right tools and thoughtful design can create a workplace that truly supports the way we work today—and tomorrow.
